Get the Clean Car Discount on eligible PHEV/EVs

The NZ Government's Clean Car Discount is available from 1 July to 31 December 2021.

The Clean Car Discount aims to reduce CO2 emissions by making low emission vehicles more affordable for Kiwis. The scheme offers rebates for battery electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) registered between 1 July and 31 December this year.

Rebates include up to $8,625 (including GST) for new vehicles and $3,450 (including GST) for used vehicles. Rebates only apply to business customers who pass credit criteria and for:

• new and used vehicles registered in NZ for the first time
• vehicles with a purchase price under $80,000 (including GST and on-road costs)
• vehicles with an ANCAP safety rating of 3 stars or above

How will it work with leasing an EV or PHEV?

FleetPartners will pass on the Clean Car Discount rebate to our customers. This means they will get a lower monthly lease rate for the eligible EV or PHEV for the full term of your lease. When you receive a quote from us, the monthly lease rate will include the discount. We will manage the rebate directly with NZTA which makes the process hassle-free for our customers on an Operating Lease - get better pricing for your new EV or PHEV and no need to apply for the rebate yourself - we will manage this process.

1. Choose your eligible EV / PHEV.
2. We generate a discounted lease quote.
3. Get reduced lease payments for the whole of term.
4. We manage the rebate process - no action needed by you.

What happens from 1 January 2022 with the Clean Car Standard?

The Government also announced an intention to charge a fee for brand new vehicles coming into the country with higher CO2 emissions. It is proposed that vehicles with a high CO2 emission rating (over 192g/km emissions) would incur a fee - the higher the CO2 rating, the greater the fee. This does not apply to vehicles already registered in NZ. This still requires the passing of Government legislation later in the year, so we will keep you informed of updates.
