GWM Cannon Alpha Hybrid - Expected Delivery: End of July

Great Wall Motors (GWM) is entering the hybrid ute market with the Cannon Alpha Hybrid. The hybrid powertrain is a turbo charged 2.0 litre petrol engine couple with an electric motor, making this vehicle a powerful yet economical option for ute enthusiasts. 

Key Features:

• Enhanced Off-Road Capability: The GWM Cannon Alpha features an intelligent All-Terrain system with three driving modes, locking front and rear differentials, and a Borg Warner 4x4 transfer case. These enhancements ensure superior off-road performance, making it suitable for diverse and challenging terrains. 
• Trick Tailgate: One of the standout features of the Cannon Alpha is its innovative tailgate design. It can be folded down traditionally or opened in a 60:40 split, which facilitates easier access to the bed. This design is practical for loading and unloading cargo, especially in situations where reaching over a lowered tailgate might be inconvenient.

BYD Shark - Expected Delivery: End of 2024

BYD, a renowned Chinese automaker, is making strides with its upcoming turbocharged 1.5 litre plug-in hybrid ute , the BYD Shark. This model promises to combine the rugged capabilities of a traditional ute with the environmental benefits of a plug-in hybrid.

Key Features:

• Long Electric Range: The BYD Shark is expected to offer an impressive 840km combined range  and a 100km pure-electric range, making it suitable for both urban commuting and longer rural journeys.
• Innovative Battery and Charging Capabilities: The BYD Shark incorporates vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology, enabling it to power external devices directly from its battery. Additionally, it supports DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes. These features highlight the Shark's advanced technology and its capability to integrate with modern charging infrastructures efficiently. 

Ford Ranger Plug-in Hybrid - Expected Delivery: 2025

Ford’s iconic Ranger is set to get a green makeover with the introduction of the Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) variant. With its turbo charged 2.3 litre petrol engine coupled with and electric motor, this model will blend the power and versatility of the traditional Ranger with the fuel efficiency of a hybrid.

• Pro Power Onboard System: The Ranger Plug-in Hybrid is equipped with Ford’s Pro Power Onboard system, which allows the vehicle to function as a mobile generator. • Towing Capability: Despite its hybrid nature, the Ranger PHEV is expected to maintain the strong towing capacity (up to 3,500kg) that the Ranger series is known for.
